July 30, 2011 - SPECIAL EVENT - 5:00 p.m. Concert with Andrea Hoag and David Greely followed by pot luck dinner and English Country Dancing in the Parish Hall at Trinity Church Upperville.

Hear the music of Andrea Hoag and David Greely.   Rich in tone, refreshing as a fine summer soup!  It's a surprising chemistry, the kinship of Swedish and Cajun traditional music.  One has a Scandinavian other-worldliness that sound European, swirling and twisting like snow-devils in the wind, rhythmically elusive and melodically infectious.  The other is a swampy broth that sound American, dripping with Africa and France a the same time. They both were born on the fiddle, and though not direct kin, they are symbiotic soulmates.
 
David Greely, of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, is a Cajun Fiddler known for emotional dept and skill at bringing out the sparkle and glow of hidden gems of Cajun repertoire, making them a taste quite easily acquired.
 
Andrea Hoag's boundless imagination and joyful collaborations have been compared to Yo-Yo Ma's. A native of Seattle, Andrea worked her way from musical anywhere to musical Somewhere, delving deep into Southern Appalachian and Irish traditions before falling all the way for the Swedish Polska.  This lifelong love has led to a Grammy nomination and trans-Atlantic renown as master and ambassador of Swedish fiddling.

David and Andrea are members of the Old Doors/New Worlds pilot project, which this concert will benefit.  Suggested donation for the concert is $15.
  

Pot Luck Dinner in the Parish Hall will follow the concert at 6:30 p.m.

English Country Dancing  - 7:30 p.m. - English Country Dancing will follow the concert and potluck dinner.  The dancing will begin at 7:30 in the Parish Hall.  The dances will be called by Melissa Running, who will be accompanied by Ralph Gordon on the cello and Andrea Hoag on the fiddle.
